Belonging to the professional teaching repository for the inheritance and innovation of ethnic cultures, the abacus sub-repository, which takes the non-material cultural heritage of abacus as the resource carrier, and in accordance with the inheritance and innovation requirements for abacus culture, will build the high-capacity, sharing-type, interactive, and continuously-updated abacus teaching resources with advanced level in and out of China by applying digital media technology, and cultivate talents who could inherit and innovate abacus culture and skills. Furthermore, it will combine the talents cultivation in vocational colleges and the inheritance of non-material cultural heritage together, realize the mutual interaction and collaborative development between vocational education and ethnic culture, as well as the preservation, inheritance, dissemination and innovation of Chinese traditional culture.

The abacus sub-repository project was launched in 2015 with a total investment of 7.7 million yuan, the construction of which is led by Shanxi Finance and Taxation College, and cooperated by the vocational colleges including China Abacus Association, Jiangsu Finance and Economics Vocational College, Sichuan Finance and Economics Vocational College, Beijing Finance and Trade Vocational College, Liaocheng Vocational and Technical College in Shandong province, and Shanxi Trade College and other vocational colleges, etc.

The abacus resource repository comprises "six courses + two online museums + one skills appraisal center + one abacus research center" as the framework. The six courses include "Brief History of Chinese Abacus," "Abacus Culture," "Basic Knowledge of Abacus," "Abacus Addition and Subtraction," "Abacus Multiplication," "Abacus Division"; the two online museums are the online abacus museum and on-line calculating books museum;

The skills appraisal center mainly provides online resource services for abacus appraisal and examinations, such as abacus grade appraisal, accounting staff qualification examination (subject of abacus), and abacus mental calculation; The abacus research center mainly conducts research on the following objects, such as case database of abacus industry development, the case database of abacus mental calculation, the papers database of abacus research, the folk collection of abacus, the development dynamics of abacus industry, etc. and be responsible for collecting and sorting out the related resources for abacus research and industry development.
